In my e-book The DIY Retirement Plan, one of the first discussions I start is WHY you need to seriously consider building a business on-line.
My second WHY asked you to look inward.
WHY do you want to do this?
In my case (and perhaps yours if you are reading this), there is a determination to have the retirement I fully expected to have before the economy tanked in 2008, taking not only a chunk of my retirement savings with it, but also undermining the value of my home and other assets.
If you are anything like me, you have been careful with your earnings and your debt, you have planned ahead and put money into Retirement Savings Plans. But while we were busy taking care of families and parents and jobs, government and big business was playing a game with the world’s economy and we are left holding the bag.
Today I can see what my life will look like for the foreseeable future: I love owning my own home; I have a son who lives in New Zealand and I would love to visit and travel there; I have a grandson who I adore and I love doing things with him (and his Mom) and yes, I love spending money on him – no apologies! I have a daughter whose in-laws are Spanish – we get along like a house on fire and I would love to spend time there getting to know them and my daughter’s future better. I have that fun car that would love an amazing new paint job! And… the more time I spend on-line, the more truly-special people I am meeting – I would love to develop real-time face-to-face friendships with them.
Your story is probably similar. Or maybe you have other things you want to spend your money on: your own version of life, with your own family; a charity; the environment – we all have dreams… have you ever opened a dream thought with: “if I won the lottery, I would…” Consider being able to finish that thought.
If you build an on-line business, it is a reflection of you, your personality, and your aspirations. That is why you can create a business that might seem like others, but it will attract a whole crowd of people who like you, and what you are doing, and the way you are doing it, and want to learn, or buy, from you.
This certainly explains why I put in the hours I do, invest in training like I do, and follow leaders in the industry so I can keep abreast of any new ideas to reach my clients.
My on-line business started out as a means to an end. It didn’t stay that clinical for long. I truly love doing what I am doing. I love this space so much I would keep on doing it even if it didn’t affect my financial bottom line a cent!
Now, please answer that question again – WHY do you want to do this?
Leave your thoughts in the Comments below! please and thank you!
Tune in tomorrow for my Third Why!
I love being online because I love what I do, and can share what has made a difference in my life with so many more people than events and private sessions (which I’ve done for years). I grateful that I can do I can do it online now too…especially as I enter into these next exciting life stages.
I”m also loving being online because I meet so many amazing people from all over the world with a click of a button.
I also enjoy making money from home and setting up my schedule so I can do all the other things that I love to do…which includes being with my family and one year old grandchild 🙂
Hi Agnes,
Sure glad I met you via Beth Hewitt. This is a fantastic article and spot on. I have been on line for 3 years and absolutely love it!
I do believe that engaging with others and growing organically is one of the things I love to do with my business.
Good to meet you,
Donna
